Assistant Director of Upward Bound

Grade 11, VSC-UP/PAT, Grant Funded, Exempt

  • Assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating activities, functions and services of the Upward Bound Program, including operating policies and procedures.  
  • Assist with summer academic residential program including coordinating the supervision of summer residence halls, staff and evening activities. Interview, hire, train and evaluate staff.  
  • Plan and conduct workshops, trips and events for students.
  • Recruit, train and supervise in-school coordinators at target high schools; establish weekly contact to plan and implement program activities and monitor student progress.
  • Play a key advisory role in research and planning tasks associated with the program including plans for implementing goals and writing grant proposals.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as designing and maintaining appropriate records systems and preparing reports for funding agency.
  • Compile and disseminate information to the public regarding program services.  Write/edit various other educational and information materials.
  • Design, implement and provide personal, career and academic counseling for both residential and outreach components of the program.
  • Assist in carrying out post-secondary placement of students.  Provide assistance to students and families throughout the college application and financial aid application process.   
  • Serve as a general education and behavioral consultant for staff, parents and school personnel.

Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, counseling, or related field.  Master's degree desirable, plus two years of experience working with students from first generation, low income backgrounds, and/or two or more years of relevant counseling or teaching experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired. 

Strong writing, planning, administrative, organizational, supervisory and presentation skills. Possess a knowledge and understanding of social media platforms and have experience using database programs. 

Ability to serve as a principal program representative to students, parents, secondary and post-secondary school personnel, community agencies, funding agencies, and College personnel.
